Beaver's (just south of hooters...) Restaurant...
THAT my friends, is a Squealin’ Mary from Beaver’s (slogan…”just south of hooters” haha) in Houston, TX…a side project of Chef Monica Pope (owner of Tafia also in Houston). I heard about this place after seeing Monica Pope on Top Chef Masters last season. I decided that I needed to check it out since it’s so close! They use lots of local ingredients,...

Even Female Law Partners Suffer Wage...
newsweek:
equalitymyth:
Jesse’s got a new Newsweek piece about wage disparity in the legal profession—even among the best lawyers at the most elite firms. A new study found those women, within the highest ranks of the most respected firms, make, on average, $66,000 each year less than men.
First of all: ouch, apparently we’re in the wrong field. But second: double ouch, that is totally...
He's BACK!
My Rockstar is back in the building…but not for long unfortunately. He’s leaving tomorrow to work in Arlington (near Dallas for the non-Texans). But on a super positive note, I took some time off and I’m headed up Friday to see him and I’ll get to stay for about 5 days! Although he works 12+hour days we’ll have evenings together and I get to catch up with some old...

Menu Monday...
I just completed the ‘ole shopping list for this weeks dinner menu and it looks a little something like this…
Monday- green chicken curry with jasmine rice
Tuesday- italian meatloaf (made with ground elk) with caesar salad (homemade caesar dressing of course)
Wednesday- bbq pork chops with hot german potato salad and cole slaw
Thursday- green chile-chicken casserole with side salad...
I think I'm gonna try something new...
I haven’t really gotten around to having an organized “blogging schedule” and I think it’s about time. So…here’s what I’m thinking- Monday and Friday will be predominantly dedicated to food and my love/geek-out attitude towards it. Mondays will be focused on my menu for the week and Fridays will be more about how the menu went, Top Chef favorite moments,...

Best. Wedding. Ever. THIS WEEKEND.
That’s me and one of my very favorite ladies and best friends from high school, Miss Sarah who will be taking the plunge after 14 long years! You heard me right, 14 YEARS! She and her fiance have been together (off and on anyway) since they were freshmen in high school. So you know what that means…she’s had AT LEAST the last 5 years to cook up the wedding of her dreams which...

Top Chef DC Geek-Out...
If you can’t tell from my totally random food talk, food pictures, food reblogs, etc…I am a total food nerd. There are very few shows that I totally “geek out” to and Top Chef is #1 on that list! Last night was the (highly anticipated…for me at least) season premiere of Top Chef Washington D.C.
1. I like the location…from what I hear (since I’ve never...
Beef...it's what's for dinner!
So I didn’t post my menu this week…but tonight is my Padre’s BDay and I’m cookin’ up something special. Beef tenderloin with a walnut/horseradish sauce and grilled veggies, straight from the garden.
I was never very good at grilling steaks and I suppose I could chalk it up to it having been my Dad’s job my whole life…but I’ve never really been...
How did I go this long without this??? →
This weekend, with the help and encouragement of some friends…some new, some old…but all very cool, so cool in fact, that I felt blessed to be a part of their plans. Anyway, they introduced me and the Rockstar to a new band…new to us anyway. Dr. Dog is ridiculously awesome. If you know them, then you are evidently in the inner circle of cool and I give you props. If you...
I'm baaack...
It’s been a crazy week and I’ve neglected my little Tumblr. A quick update…my Rockstar came home last Friday night! Yay! We headed to San Antonio on Saturday to watch the good men of Powderburn open for Korn at the Jagermeister Music Fest. Tomorrow will be photo catch-up day from all of my recent happenings. After the show we hung out with our good friends Hilary and Troi and...

This week's rant: People Suck.
I don’t think I’ll ever understand people. Why, in anyone’s right mind, would they ask for something then get mad that you did your job? Why would someone pay you for nothing, when you’re skilled at lots of things? Why do people in San Antonio drive so flippin’ terribly? That’s a big one folks. I’ve driven in pretty much all of the major cities in Texas...
Fish Tacos with Lime-Cilantro Crema-Mmm...
I made these last night and they were a big hit! Here’s the recipe as is…and at the end, I’ll I add the changes that I made…

1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

– Pasha Malla (via yourstrulylp) (via coherentramblings)
This quote made me think of my shark obsessed Rockstar. I’ve done absolutely all of those things EXCEPT make him shark-shaped pancakes. I’m pretty sure he would propose on the spot if I did that…so I’ll hold out a...
Cooking it up...
I love to cook! And even more importantly…I LOVE to eat! Every Monday I make a menu and go to the grocery store. I try to keep it on the healthy side…with an occasional splurge. I try to do one meatless day a week too. So I thought I’d share what was on the menu this week and if something goes really well, I’ll post pics and recipes. Tonight, we’re going...
